Life is full of challenges, as you know so well. During the pandemic and as world events take center stage, you may feel stressed and overwhelmed.
Whether you have physical or emotional symptoms, feeling stressed out may not be uncommon.
But understand that feeling stress is natural and you’re not any different than anyone else. You may be feeling emotional or nervous. Maybe you have trouble sleeping, or eating. These are all natural feelings.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has many healthy ways for you to deal with stress. Best of all, we’re here to support you at Regency at Augusta and provide a comforting, supportive environment in our assisted living facility.
Take a Break!
If you’re feeling stressed out, try taking a break from watching, reading, or listening to news stories. Stay off social media as well.
Being informed is good, but a steady stream of traumatic news and events can overly upset you. Scale back on the frequency of getting your news. Try disconnecting from your smartphone, television, or computer screen.
Help Yourself
One of the best ways to handle stress is to take care of yourself. Eat well, and eat healthy. Don’t binge on sugary or processed foods. Get plenty of sleep. Take breaks if you feel stressed out.
Take part in the activities we offer at Regency at Augusta. Find someone to exercise with or play games with. Have some fun!
Take Care of Your Body
Here are some quick tips of relieving stress by taking care of your body:
- Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate
- Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
- Exercise regularly
- Get plenty of sleep
- Avoid excessive alcohol, or tobacco use
- Keep having routine preventive measures such as vaccinations or cancer screenings recommended by your doctor or health care provider.
- Get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, or get a booster shot.
Be Sure to Unwind
Find activities you enjoy doing, or go back to them. Whether it’s reading, visiting, games, group activities, walking, swimming, or other activities, make a concerted effort to take part in them.
Talk to Others
Talking with someone you trust about your concerns is a great help. It may be a spouse, or friend, or counselor, or doctor, or pastor, or someone else. But getting things out is helpful.
Don’t forget that it’s natural to feel stress, anxiety, grief and worry. But you can also help manage these feelings and find ways to relieve your stress levels.
